ESX DRDS-14

Many people know the problem: when turning amplifiers on or off, a disturbing "PLOPP" sound comes from the speakers or subwoofer. This is often caused by poor timing between the radio and the amplifier or a high power demand, especially when several amplifiers are to be switched on at the same time. To prevent this, relays are often installed to delay the switching, but this is a complicated and expensive solution. ESX now offers a much simpler and more efficient alternative: the DRDS-14 Remote 4-channel switch, which permanently solves switching problems while protecting high-quality components.

To prevent amplifiers controlled by the remote signal from all starting at the same time, the signal must be staggered for each amplifier. Simply put: as soon as the first amplifier is switched on, the second should follow after a short delay, then the third, and finally the fourth. This is exactly what the new DRDS14 enables. The switch has a remote input, which typically comes from the car radio or a DSP, as well as four adjacent remote outputs. Using the side buttons, a time delay can be set individually for each output. For example, the first output can become active two seconds after switching on the radio, the second five seconds after the first output, and so on – all the way to the fourth amplifier.  The outputs can even be programmed in reverse order independently of the power-on delay, so that the amplifiers are switched off at staggered times and one after another.

The DRDS-14 additionally offers not only a digital voltage display, which can even be calibrated to match, for example, other nearby voltage displays such as those on buffer capacitors, but also features a sophisticated protection function: if an under- or overvoltage occurs in the vehicle, the limits of which can be set individually, the connected components are automatically switched off so that they cannot be damaged.
