More and more, not only 16.5 cm bass speakers fit in the front doors, but also really large drivers with a diameter of 20 cm. Since the simple rule of thumb “more diaphragm area = more bass” also applies here, the new 8-inch ESX woofers from the QUANTUM QXE series can deliver a lot of bass from the doors. They fit into standard 20 cm adapters for many car models, such as VW, Audi, and even Tesla.

Since conventional 20 cm woofers with ferrite magnets are too heavy and too deep for door mounting, ESX has designed a special 20 cm bass-midrange speaker with a neodymium drive that is particularly well suited for door installation thanks to its low mounting depth of 57 mm and light weight of 542 grams. In addition to the high-quality fiberglass diaphragm, it also features another special design feature: the neodymium magnet is not mounted behind the speaker basket as usual, but in front. This saves mounting depth and also optimizes the center of gravity.

The fabric tweeter, already known from the QXE6.2CV2, is also used in the new 20 cm set. A look at the measurement data reveals the potential of this extremely good 25 mm fabric neodymium tweeter: It shows a frequency response as straight as a ruler and easily plays confidently well beyond 24,000 Hz. Clever: the grille can be unscrewed along with the enclosure via a metric thread and significantly reduces the required space when needed (e.g. when installing in the mirror triangle). An ABS enclosure is included for surface mounting. For separation, a 12 dB inline crossover optimized for this system is used.
